Assessment
Overview:
Module 5 focuses on the processes of Encoding and Retrieval, that is, how knowledge is stored and recovered from Long Term Memory, one component of the CIP Model.
Objectives:
After completing Module 5, Cognitive Information Processing II - Encoding and Retrieval
1. Students will have read and researched various sources related to:
• the Cognitive Information Processing perspective of learning
• encoding information to be stored in Long Term Memory
• retrieval of information from Long Term Memory.
2. Students will have reflected on "Implications for Instruction" associated with encoding and retrieval of information into Long Term Memory.
5. Students will have composed a response to at least two of the questions associated with the implications for instruction.
6. Students will have replied to other students' postings about the implications for instruction
7. Students will have completed the quizzes associated with the textbook readings.

Memory: Encoding Processes
Read textbook, Part 1: Chapter 4 (Bruning, R.H., Schraw, G.J., Norby, M.M. & Ronning, R.R. (2004). Cognitive psychology and instruction (4th ed.). Pearson Merrill Prentice Hall
  • Reflect on the implications for instruction on pages 86-90. Frame your reflections and self-questioning from the perspective of the adult learner.
  • For each of the implications for instruction, ask yourself:
    • In what ways can instructional design and delivery address the implication.
Memory: Retrieval Processes
Read textbook, Part 1: Chapter 5 (Bruning, R.H., Schraw, G.J., Norby, M.M. & Ronning, R.R. (2004). Cognitive psychology and instruction (4th ed.). Pearson Merrill Prentice Hall

Reflect on the implications for instruction on pages 106-108. Frame your reflections and self-questioning from the perspective of the adult learner.
  • For each of the implications for instruction, ask yourself:
    • In what ways can instructional design and delivery address the implication.

Module 5: Responses Required
See Schedule for Due Dates
Responses:
Complete Quizzes:
Chapter 4
&
Chapter 5

Response: Part One
Response Required - See Schedule for due date
  • Select one (1) of the implications for instruction from Chapter 4 (pgs. 86-90) and one (1) of the implications for instruction from Chapter 5 (pgs. 106-108).
  • For each of the implications for instruction from each of the two chapters, compose a question related to the implication. Then, thinking from the adult learner/learning perspective, answer the question that you posed for the 2 implications for instruction you have chosen. (See Module 4 CIP I for ideas about how to pose questions that are associated with each implication.)
  • You will create one posting (one response) that includes both implications.
  • Format: Format: Format for the response should be as follows: Format with labels as below. Double space between sections and paragraph for ease of reading. Keep your reader in mind when you post. Preview and edit before posting. No points will be deducted for loss of formatting that you are unable to control. However, points will be deducted for lack of paragraphing and failing to double space between sections. Always preview and edit before posting.

Chapter 4 - Implication for Instruction: (Write out the implication for instruction.)

Question: (Write out the question that you composed)

Answer: (Provide a brief, but substantive, concise, and specific answer to the question.)

Chapter 5 – Implication for Instruction: (Write out the implication for instruction.)

Question: (Write out the question that you composed)

Answer: (Provide a brief, but substantive, concise, and specific answer to the question.)

  • Post on the Discussion Assignment 5 that corresponds with your team membership.
  • Go to the Discussion that is associated with your team membership. For example, if you are assigned to team 1, go to Discussion Assignment5 Team 1, if you are assigned to team 2, go to Discussion Assignment 5 Team 2 etc.

  • Post your one composed response that includes the two implications for instruction you selected from Chapters 4 & 5(one from Chapter 4 and one from Chapter 5). Preview and edit before posting.

Response: Part Two
“A” contracts = 5 replies
“B” contracts = 3 replies

Response Required - See Schedule for Due Date (note: do not post part 2 until after the due date and time for part 1)
  • A contracts reply to at least five (5) members of your team.
B contracts reply to at least three (3) members of your team.
When replying, make sure that each team member has at least one reply. If at the time you are completing part two, you find that some team members have multiple replies, go to the posting that has the fewer replies. You may, of course, reply to more than the required number. You may also post replies outside your team if you have met the minimum requirement for posting replies to your team members.
  • Read thoroughly and reflectively the composed message. React in a scholarly manner to the information. Provide at least one additional idea or suggestion related to the each of the implications.
  • Format your replies as: (label as below) (Double Space between sections and paragraph for ease of reading)
Chapter 4 Reaction (write your reaction)

Suggestion or Additional Idea (provide your suggestion or additional idea)

Chapter 5 Reaction (write your reaction)

Suggestion or Additional Idea (provide your suggestion or additional idea).

  • Note: Each reply should include responses to implications from both chapters 4 &5.

Assessment for Module 5: (See evaluation table)
1. Completion of Chapter 4 Quiz (points received out of 25 possible points)
2. Completion of Chapter 5 Quiz (points received out of 25 possible points)
3. Quality completion of Response Required Part 1 = possible 100 points (See evaluation table)
4. Quality completion of Response Required Part 2 =
“A” contracts = 5 replies required at 10 points per reply
“B” contracts = 3 replies required at 10 points per reply
“C” contracts = 0 replies required
